California Philharmonic:
Magic, Fantasy, Adventure!
Music has the ability to transport you to worlds seen and unseen, astounding or frightening, whether known or only discoverable in the imagination. Maestro Vener has assembled a collection of music that travels from under the sea to mountaintops and beyond, with your wildest dreams as the only limit. Visit the African savannah with music from The Lion King, a fantastical hidden castle in France with Beauty & The Beast, tour the waves and the shore with The Little Mermaid and the imaginary realm of evil King Kashchei in Igor Stravinsky’s ballet music from The Firebird. But don’t try to over-reach your abilities, as The Sorcerer’s Apprentice did! Joining Maestro Vener and Cal Phil are the acclaimed Cal Phil Chorale, under the direction of Marya Basaraba. What’s more, at the Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall, organist Philip Smith joins the orchestra in Bach’s haunting Toccata and Fugue in d minor.
